May has been the month that our crops have finally taken off after the perfect combination of rain and sunshine!

Our beautiful Rainbow chard, our spring staple, has very nearly finished and is being replaced by tomatoes and courgettes, with cucumbers, peppers and aubergines ready to shortly follow. As I write this we were harvesting our first broad beans of the year, however when you read the article in roughly 14 days, we will be on our third week of picking them. Our peas are very nearly ready to pick and as you read this on the 1st of June we expect to be packing them into veg boxes and have some out on our purple stall.

After the wet April we have had quite a battle with the local rodent and slug population who seem to like our crops as much as we do! But with the aid of eggshells (keep them coming) to deter slugs and mint plants and used tea bags on our vegetable beds to persuade the local mouse population to hop it we are getting there.

To remind you all that our volunteer days are on Wednesday 10 – 2pm and Thursday 12-3pm, we also have jobs that need doing in the evenings if anyone would be available.

Thank you very much to all those in our community that have donated wood, pallets, compost bins and tools to us, but we still do need more. Thank you to our regular vegetable box customers and those that buy from our roadside stalls for your support, if you are not yet buying our organic vegetables there are 2 ways you can buy from us – you can order a vegetable box and have it delivered to your door weekly or fortnightly. We offer a regular or large box and also a fruit box. You can also shop at our purple roadside stalls where you can find a variety of veg grown on our land and also from Riverford, at very competitive prices.
