September for us is a long-awaited month when a lot of our crops are ready to harvest. We have been harvesting large quantities of tomatoes, cucumbers, patty pan squashes, spaghetti squashes, runner beans, aubergines, courgettes and kale which have been added to in the last few weeks with broccoli, sweet peppers and the first of this years sweetcorn. Next will be our sweet potatoes which are already larger than last years crop and tiger nuts which is one of this years experimental crops.
We have trays of sprouts, kale and chard all ready to go in the ground but we are waiting for some of our current crops to finish before we have room.
We have kindly been donated several large tractor tyres by Caradon tyres which have been moved into position and started being filled with compost, next week we will have hopefully collected manure to fill them to the brim and plant our Christmas potatoes.
Recently we had the opportunity to nominate one of our volunteers for “Cornwall celebrates volunteering” to receive an award. We had no difficulty in deciding our nominee this year, to recognise one of our volunteers Colin who has committed extra time to the project and taken responsibility for our previously neglected fruit bushes, fingers crossed he gets to the shortlist!
We do have a small project on our site we would like to complete and would be grateful for any donations of water butts and guttering, this is to collect rainwater to use for watering.
Our produce is available through our vegetable box scheme and also from our purple roadside stalls where you can find a variety of fruit and vegetables grown on our land with also a small amount of items such as lemons and limes grown by organic suppliers.
We can also be found at Linkinhorne parish hall on Thursdays between 2.30 and 4.30 pm with a mini stall at their open coffee afternoon.
